Treatment
methods for knee injury or degeneration FAQs
What are
the functions of our knee joint?
Knee is a
complicated joint with many ligaments and multifunctional muscles crossing it.
It has important functions like load bearing and smooth propulsion of the body.
Another important function is that it takes torsion and shear loads and also
balances them.
How injury
occurs in knee joint?
During any
sudden load or abrupt twisting force our knee joint gets injured. The injury
may vary from simple strain to tears in meniscus or ligaments.
What are
the symptoms?
Some type
of injuries are very painful and rushes us to take treatment immediately, while
others are less painful but functionally restrictive. The less painful variety
causes chronic degeneration if left untreated.
What are
the treatments usually taken?
The usual
treatments followed are pain killers (creams, tablets and injections). Heat therapy to improve circulation and
reduce pain. But following such methods are uncertain (may or may not relieve
the issue). Even if they do relieve the symptoms in certain people it may take
them to a chronic dysfunction.
Specialities
in Newzone spine and joints
We
specialize in treating knee joints by finding out the root cause in acute
conditions and advice our patients accordingly.
In-joint
movements (arthrokinematics):
The joint
not only bends and extends it also twists and rotates inside by putting load on
different surfaces of the bones. When there is an alteration in such movements
the loads are shifted to unusual regions and causes sequel of symptoms and
internal changes. We treat the faulty arthrokinematics through graded
stimulation to achieve a proper functional movement which allows us to reduce
the unnecessary stress and allows the body to regain normal movements and come
out of the injured state.
Calcifications:
Chronic
calcifications around the meniscus (disc between the joints) or under the
musculotendinous junction is relieved by controlled waves from ESWT or minimal
sonic waves from an ultrasound.
Inflammations:
Acute
inflammations are best treated by laser(soft laser class3-b) which helps in
immediate recovery of the injured structure without the use of harmful
anti-inflammatory drugs. Laser is safe as it only targets the injured tissue
and works on it.
